If absent, students have five days to make up missing assignments. If absent, students have 5 days upon returning to school to make up missed tests. Students must arrange a time either before or after school.
Classroom Procedures:
I expect all students to come to class prepared. This means that homework must be completed prior to entering the room and papers printed. See the late work policy below.
If you are absent, it is your responsibility to find out about work missed and complete it on time. Email me or check my website if you are out of class. Always assume that there is work to be completed.
I may give announced or unannounced quizzes, so always come to class prepared.
Tardiness is not acceptable and will result in afterschool detention. After entering the classroom in a timely, respectful manner, students will quietly take out materials for class. We will begin with a warm-up while I set up and take attendance.
I will not accept work by email, unless otherwise instructed.
Rules:
Be respectful of others at all times.
Have cell phones and all other electronic devices put away and on silent for the entire class.
Cheating and plagiarism will not be tolerated. Honesty is crucial.
No food or drinks in the classroom. Water in a clear container is permitted.
Please do not abuse bathroom privileges. If you have to go, kindly wait until group work.
Please pick up your own trash and refrain from damaging school property.
Consequences:
Tardiness and absences: If a student is not in class when the bell rings, they will need to go to the lockout room for a pass. The next day, the student will serve an ASD. On the third ASD, parents will be contacted by administration. Students cannot have more than 10 absences in a semester. More than 10 absences will result in retention. Other infractions and class disruptions will result in the following measures: 1. A verbal warning will be issued to the student. 2. If the issue persists even after a verbal warning, a conversation with the student about the issue will occur. 3. A parent will be contacted about the issue, should it persist even after a warning and a conversation. 5. An after school detention (ASD) will then be issued, should the behavior continue after parent contact. 4. A disciplinary referral will be issued if the behavior continues after detention.
**Major infractions (i.e. violence, illicit substances, sexual harassment) will be referred to administration.
Plagiarism Note: All work submitted is expected to be the student’s own work. This includes homework. No collaboration or outside help is to be received on any assignment unless specifically stated by the instructor. Any opinion or information drawn from an outside source must be documented according to the specifications of the Modern Language Association (MLA). A student who submits work that is either not his/her own or without clear attribution to the original source is guilty of plagiarism and will receive a grade of zero for that assignment. Other consequences, including a discipline referral, will be assessed based on Butler High School and/or CMS guidelines.
